The memorial is to be found in the middle of the churchyard, southeast of the church, in St. Helen's Churchyard, Oark Lane, Pinxton. Originally a Cornish granite cross but flanking walls were subsequently added and the inscriptions were later covered by brass plaques. The potent wheel cross has chamfered limbs and fleurs-de-lys on each quadrant and surmounts a shaft with base and capital. The square capital has a Christograph in relief on the 6 o'clock face, the tapered octagonal shaft has delicate carvings in bands near the head and foot and the base is octagonal with mouldings at the top. The shaft surmounts an octagonal pedestal with chamfered top, which had the incised inscription on the faces in upright capital lettering infilled in black. The pedestal surmounts a moulded octagonal plinth and a plain octagonal three-stepped base. Subsequently the cross was flanked by two polygonal walls of random coursed stone. At the eastern end of the northern wall was set a further panel, probably a stone tablet with an incised inscription in upright capital lettering. Later all of the inscriptions were covered with brass plaques and a further plaque was added at the eastern end of the southern wall. Each of these ten oblong plaques has a raised border, a black ground, a raised depiction of a poppy wreath and an inscription in raised upright block lettering, mostly capitals. Built by Alan and Andrew Thomlin. Dedicated 8 October 1920 by Bishop of Derby,Rev S Coke, unveiled 8 October 1920 by Major George Coke Robertson, rededicated October 1965 by Rev. Gwyther, unveiled October 1965 by Mrs Nicholson, and Mrs Millington, further rededicated 8 October 2006. There are 72 names for World War 1, 21 for World War 2 and 4 for post 1945.
